==Highlights of 2021==

The year started off slow as we came back from a particularly long winter break. Unfortunately due to COVID we had to hold many of our meetings and events over zoom. Our first in-person event was on Valentines day where we got together to write holiday cards that got dropped of at a local retirement home.

As march rolled around, many members were also a part of Simpson college's dance marathon program, and as a Kappa team we won the award for raising the most money for the second year in a row. Sadie Cahalan was the top fundraiser overall. Less than a week later was the annual Greek week. Our chapter participated in all of the events and ended up in first place. We also received the grade cup award from the fall semester for having the highest grade point average of all the sororities on campus. Gabby Schroud, our event chair, spent a lot of time planning our first in-person formal in over a year, the theme was A Starry Night. Everyone got dressed up and spent the whole night experiencing a somewhat normal evening with each other.

After being cooped up inside most of the semester, we all got outside to celebrate on one of the newest additions to our chapter house, a new deck! This quickly became the favorite hangout spot for many of the women living in the house.

Not only did COVID affect our internal operations, but it put a dent in our recruiting efforts. Luckily we received three amazing new members near the end of the semester, but it pushed back our initiation timeline so far that they had to be initiated online after the semester had ended. Another chapter in California graciously let us join in on their virtual ceremonies. By the end of the semester, a total of fourteen seniors graduated and moved onto the next chapter of their lives.

By mid august, all of the Greek houses moved back onto campus for their work weeks. Our week consisted of pajama themed days, ice cream parties, and bonfires. We all felt a growing strength in our sisterhood throughout the week. Unlike previous years, our formal recruitment was pushed back which allowed us to spend more time preparing all of the members who have never experienced an in-person recruitment. It was a success, and we gained 7 more amazing new members that we celebrated with on our birthday party themed bid day.

Since many of the COVID restrictions from the previous semester had been lifted, this semester was packed with many fun-filled events such as family weekend, a 1920's themed formal, and exchanges with many of the other Greek houses on campus. During homecoming week, a few members took part in the activities like street painting and minute-to-win-it games. The week ended with the revival of Yell like Hell where Kappa won first place in the Stomp competition. The next day we were all outside cheering on our team from the field as cheerleaders, dancers, and students packed on the bleachers; the best way to end the week.

As initiation grew nearer, families grew bigger when we had our big little reveal. Each big hid behind a cardboard wall and popped out when their music played. Finally it was time for the new members to be initiated. During the first in-person initiation since the fall of 2019, over half of all the members in our chapter were initiated and "re-initiated". We performed an initiation service for all of the members who were initiated online to give them the experience of an in-person ceremony, followed by the initiation of all of the newest members. It was truly a morning to remember. And to top it off, we had an amazing breakfast catered by Hyvee.

As the semester came to an end, new officers were installed and seniors Sarah Nolting and Lindsay Coleman experienced their last meeting, which was emotional for many members. It was a tough year with many challenges, but it ended with some of the strongest bonds within our sisterhood in many years.
