Helen Wills Roarke In the year 2012 the Epsilon Xi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was able to continue its growth and mark its 38th year since being founded. The chapter held a myriad of successful philanthropy and social events in the spring including, “Kappa Kookie Gathering” and “Reading is Key”. Kappa Kookie Gathering was an event organized by the Public Relations Officer. The event took place at the Kappa house and as an alternative to selling tickets to the event; guests were asked to bring children’s books, which were donated to schools and libraries in need. Members of various Fraternities and Sororities participated and contributed to the event. Reading is Key was held later in the spring, at the Boys and Girls Club of Simi Valley, where the chapter read books and did arts and crafts with the children to promote children’s literacy. Epsilon Xi started the fall semester early, because recruitment retreat was held in August. The lovely sisters of the Gamma Xi chapter at UCLA allowed Epsilon Xi to utilize their beautiful house for the weekend. This gave the chapter the opportunity to rehearse all of the essentials needed in order to prepare for recruitment, which was soon approaching. The weekend away gave the chapter the opportunity to bond and learn the true meaning of sisterhood. All of the hard work that was put into planning the retreat was worthwhile when the chapter received one hundred percent retention rate on day one of recruitment. In Epsilon Xi welcomed forty-one new members into its chapter. Professional tennis player The week after recruitment, the chapter held its first philanthropy event of the fall semester, won “Kappa Splash”. Kappa Splash was held at the French Championships four timesswimming pool located on campus. Kappa Splash is a competition between IFC fraternities, where they are judged on who had the best belly flop and who donates the Umost books.SAll the books collected were donated to Locke High School, where an alumnae sister teaches. Championships seven timesPrior to the event, Locke High School did not have a library available to the students. Shortly after Kappa Splash, “KKGlee” was held for a second time after being founded by Epsilon Xi in 2010. Fraternities and Wimbledon eight timesSororities filled the University Student Union Theater to maximum capacity to watch one another preform various dance and lip sync acts. KKGlee 2012 held a special place in each sister’s heart, because all proceeds were donated to the Lupus LA Foundation, in support of an active sister fighting lupus. To conclude the semester, the chapter was proud to initiate 38 members as new sisters.

In the 2013 calendar year, the Epsilon Xi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was the first sorority celebrated its 39th year since being founded at UC Berkeley - dating all the way back to 1880on November 16th 1974. Designed by Julia MorganThroughout this past year, the first licensed female architect Epsilon Xi participated in Californiaa number of philanthropic events. Our kickoff event started with Kappa Kookie Gathering, which is an event that our Public Relations Chair organizes to promote Reading Is Fundamental. Our chapter house was originally built hosts an event where we provide baked goods for Chancellor Gayley before being renovated for its current use. Our home includes 126 actives in total whose interests extend to include such activities other fraternities and sororities as well as PAD (a pre-law fraternity anyone on campus), Berkeley Consulting (a prestigious consulting firm on campus), International non-profit work with the organization Invisible Children, to enjoy and Cal athletics (Crewto learn more about our philanthropy. The event is hosted at our sorority house, Water Polo, and Lacrosse) along with everything all we ask as an entry fee is for each person to bring at least one children’s book. The books we collected were then donated to local schools in betweenneed. The diversity second philanthropy event of our Spring semester was Skate and Donate. Skate and dedication Donate is an event that our Philanthropy Chair hosts at Skateland in honor of our women are what make Kappa Kappa Gamma a sister who was killed in a drunk driving accident. Our chapter's mission statement incorporates last philanthropy event we participated in for spring was Reading is Key. == Fall Semester was underway with our annual sisterhood retreat, held at the UCLA Kappa House. During this weekend in August, our Recruitment Chair hosts a number of rehearsals for our upcoming Fall Recruitment. After we gained 37 new members, we were busy planning “Kappa Splash” event. Kappa Splash is an event hosted and organized by the Public Relations Chair. Kappa’s event includes a tailgate setting with food, baked goods, and a brief gathering before our diving competition starts. Each fraternity enters our diving competition at our campus’s pool, where they compete for best dive, most creative splash, along with others. Again, the entry fee for each fraternity to enter the competition is to bring children’s books. Through Kappa Splash and the help of our peers, we raised over three thousand books from this one event alone. This was the year we set a record for the highest amount of book we have ever collected at one single event. At the end of the new members’ period we were proud to initiate 37 new sisters. 2013 proved to be a great year for Epsilon Xi, and one of our most exciting happenings was the renovation of our front room at the Kappa house. The Early Years ==house chairman was responsible for implementing new design ideas including new paint, crown molding, and new furniture. The new color scheme of our main room goes along with our Kappa colors; light and dark blue.

CSUN’s Greek life continues to thrive. The parent university overall Greek unity on our campus is a great way to network and connect with other students. Fall semester of 2012, our school welcomed with open arms a sorority well known across the California complex U.S. but new to our campus. This sorority was chartered by Phi Mu. During the state March 23following year, 1868. In 1880, at every house made their best effort to show the time sisters of Pi’s Phi Mu support and encouragement during their founding, there were 213 men process. This included attending their philanthropy events and 55 women student, and 36 gatherings they hosted. The annual banquet had been held; Flora Beal had been chosen class essayist; and the first Pi wedding had been celebrated between Sarah Ellery students on campus and Fred Ostrander.Although the ingredients were always available, it was becoming more than twelve years later that a second Pi was put on the Berkeley campuswell-rounded individuals.

== '''Pi Deuteron Chapter''' Highlights of 2014==In the 2014 calendar year, the Epsilon Xi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma celebrated its 40th year since being founded on November 16th, 1974. In honor of this, the Epsilon Xi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma held a huge celebration at the Northridge Center located on CSUN’s campus where Alumni were invited to come back to celebrate and reminisce on all the wonderful memories they once shared in this beautiful chapter.During this year Kappa also managed to put together several fundraising events, including Kappa Splash where 6,000 books were raised to donate to Susan G. Coleman Foundation, along with putting together KKGlee to support and to donate to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), to give and show our support for this charity. With this we also had the honor of sending one of our Kappa’s, Meghan McCarty, to a weekend Leadership Academy in Springfield Ohio, where she learned the skills needed to become a leader and got to experience other Kappas from other chapters where she was happy to report that all the girls were a joy to be around.

Paradoxically the Kappa Alpha Theta charter, which had gathered dust in the express office in 1880 when “Old Pi” was founded, returned to the Berkeley campus and was put to use seven years before Pi Deuteron was installed. It was 1893 when a group decided to apply for a Kappa charter and was approved by Beta Eta at Stanford University as well as original Pi members, only to discover that another group already applied. The second group persisted in celebrated its efforts, however, because of its Kappa sponsorship. While they waited, the girls formed a local society, called “Sorosis,” under the patronage of the San Francisco Sorosis in 1894.Grand Council was not eager to grant the new charter, thinking of convention expenses connected sisterhood with far away California, and the former prejudices an event where we all bonded while doing yoga on the campusbeach. In 1895 Bertha Richmond (Chevalier)Kicking off our spring semester we held philanthropy events; Kappa Kookie Gathering, Φ—Boston, grand secretary, wrote: “I feel that the increase in numbers would not add materially if at all to the strength of the Fraternity…I think that the Fraternity cannot afford another chapter in the Far West.”Two years later, as grand president, she reversed herself with, “I think that our Fraternity Reading is neither so largeKey, nor so strong, that it could not be benefited by the addition of a new strong chapter.”The installation and initiation provided joyous ceremonies for members of the first Pi, for sponsoring actives from Stanford, and for the charter members who had made Sorosis strongKappa Kickball. Music by Schumann backed up the service which was conducted by Annabel Collins (Coe)At our Kappa Kookie Gathering event, BZ—Iowa, grand treasurer. Visitorsfraternities, having been feted sororities and taken up Mt. It was easy Epsilon Xi to place the men students in their class rank. Freshman carried new equipment; sophomores swung their canes; juniors wore battered white plug hats decorated with class Boys and fraternity symbols; and the black silk hats Girls Club of the seniors looked like “worn out accordions.” They were often handed down from one class Simi Valley to the next.Women’s dress was less distinctive. In the beginning they had worn their mortar boards after their freshman year, but in 1897 this was outmoded. Some social events also were considered old fashioned. At the senior ball, which was still popular, the girls dressed in calling costumes and hats read and danced only play with “a few favored friends.” YMCA and the YWCA (a Pi member was a founder) were strong on campuschildren. There was still feeling about coeducationLastly, but popular girls could receive Kappa's invited family to have a number of invitations to men’s fraternities on class family day. White duck trousers at a park where they picnicked and organdy dresses were everywhere and later there would be a general visit went to Co-Ed Canyon for extemporaneous entertainment, then dinner and a glee club concert. Graduation was a let-down after the excitement of class day.There was field to play a marked difference between Stanford and the University game of California. One was built on science Kickball with Kappa's and the other on the classic tradition, where Latin and Greek were common prerequisites and examinations were becoming more and more rigid. The women of Berkeley had been wearing their hats and gloves to class for 25 years—“as if they were visitors.” The Stanford girls were much amused. The Berkely girls could relax only in the gymnasium or the ladies roomfamilies.In spite of their conservatism the Kappas of Pi Deuteron held important positions Epsilon Xi bonded on the campus. And they had a three story house, owned by the patroness, Sisterhood Retreat over the mother of a member. The house was known for two outstanding features, named for Sorosis members who did not live summer to see Kappa’s reinstatement: the Alice Dewey Michaels Memorial Library UCLA Kappa Kappa Gamma House and the Mabel Worthington Sullivan Memorial Art Collection. During their first term as a chapter a reception was given prepared for MrsFall '14 recruitment . Hearst, and two We also had the pleasure of bringing in 13 new members organized Prytanean, the women’s honor societyinto our chapter during Spring ’14.

== ''A New Century'' CSUN’s Greek life had some setbacks due to negative social media attention that reflected poorly on Greek Life but Kappa managed to uphold our standards and bylaws and remain up to par with our standards of academic excellence by providing help for sisters in need by creating links for girls to access providing them with members who have already taken similar courses to help with anything needed.Kappa also continues to reserve study rooms every week for girls in need of a quiet place to study and get homework done.With this Kappa Kappa Gamma also managed to come in first with grades with a chapter overall of a 3.01 GPA. ==

== ''The Kappa House'' ... ==Pi was granted a charter in 1880 and closed by 1885. Pi Deuteron was re-installed in 1897 and they had a three story house on Fulton Street that housed four members, owned by Mrs. Rising, the mother of members Alice Rising and Ruth Rising.  In the January 1898 issue of The Key, the corresponding wrote in her chapter letter “our chapter house is well established. In 1912 a move was made to 2725 Channing Way, Pi’s own house at last. In 1929, the chapter house was remodeled and refurnished downstairs. In 1949, the former home of Professor Galey on Piedmont Avenue became the chapter house. It was renovated and a two-story wing added. Jeanne Ley she said when she pledged as a freshman the house was on Channing then moved the following year to Piedmont. According to Jeanne, the house originally was a "lovely shingled and traditional Julia Morgan home", then they added the "hospital wing with that ugly grey floor, and sprayed cement over the beautiful shingles!"....evidently the remodel was not very popular. Until the remodel the girls all had meals at the I-House since there was no large kitchen or dining room. For the remodel the house was raised, the chapter room, dining room and kitchen added as the ground floor, and the entire structure moved forward on the lot to create the back courtyard. Jeanne said she remembers them doing all this from Christmas through the summer, and the girls moved back to Kappa in the fall! == ''The Later Years'' ... == '''Highlights of the 1970s:''' 2015==Highlights of the 1980s:== The chapter succesfully upheld its founding principles during this ten year period. The members of Kappa Kappa Gamma were extremely busy with academics, sports, internships, and jobs, while at the same time made tiume for social activities including the annual ATO picnic and father daughter dance. During this time period many intelligent, dedicated, outgoing, amazing members encouraged one another and motivated each other to work towards the Fraternity's potential.

Much needed improvemnts In the 2015 calendar year, the Epsilon Xi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma celebrated its 41st year since being founded on November 16th, 1974. Throughout this past school year, Epsilon Xi has been a part of and thrown many philanthropic events. To kick off the Spring 2015 semester, we held our annual Kappa Kookie Gathering on April 13th, which is an event our House Chair organizes to promote Reading is Fundamental. We host this event at the Kappa house were made thanks and invite fraternities, sororities, friends and family to those who supported the Fire Sprinkler Campaign come and support our cause. We asked each guest to bring one children’s book for admission and then they are welcome to eat delicious baked goods and mingle. The second philanthropy event held in the careful management of spring semester was Skate and Donate. Skate and Donate is an event our capital improvement's budgetphilanthropy chair hosts at a local skating rink, which raised money for the Corrine McClain Scholarship. These improvements included installation of fire-safe floors In early February 2015, bedrooms Reading is Key gathered members from Epsilon Xi to The Boys and halls were painted Girls Club of Simi Valley to read and recarpetedplay games with the children, to stress the House Director's apartment was expanded importance of reading. We kicked off Fall 2015 with Kappa Splash on September 26th where we invited fraternities to participate in a fun diving contest and refurbishedwe raised over 7, 000 books. Later in the semester, we invited all sororities and the attic storage space fraternities to participate in KKGlee, a fun talent show. $3,000 from ticket sales was rennovated donated to provide the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA). As a better study space for the girlschapter, we decided to donate to AARDA to raise money and support sisters who are living with autoimmune diseases. We With this we also succesfully satisfied each area in "The Challenge to Excellence" that was issued by had the Regional Directors honor of sending one of Kappa our Kappa’s, Emma Feitshans, to Leadership Academy to assist in smoothly operating each represent our chapter.

As well as fun activities during chapter meeting such as the 1990s:==No Skippy Jar, where girls put there names into a jar if they didn’t skip any class that week and a name was randomly chosen to win a great prize. Also, the Geeks of the Week, where any member who received and A on an exam or quiz, texted the Vice President of Academic Excellence a picture of their score and their names were read in meeting and were automatically entered into a monthly giveaway. With this, Epsilon Xi managed to come first in grades during the spring 2015 semester with a chapter overall GPA of a 2.975

San Francisco Bay area earthquake 1990 … chapter house not damaged but it was “mayhem in the chapter house Epsilon Xi experienced an eventful year filled with 60 girls screamingsisterly bonding, things falling off shelvesevents,” said the Philanthropy Chairman at the timeand lifelong memories. “There were minor bruises but no injuriesWe hosted successful philanthropy events that brought us closer together as sisters. No one realized how serious it was until This year we later saw it have really focused on TVbuilding strong relationships with one another.” Spared from damage We have done so by having philanthropy events and injurysisterhood events. To start off our semester on February 19th, Pi Deuteron we had our annual philanthropy event, Reading is Key that was eager hosted at a local elementary school! We were able to read to children, enjoy fun crafts that were designed to help be grade specific, play games, and bond with the reliefchildren. They gave $900 This event is special to our chapter because we are able to interact with children and see where our proceeds are going to. Shortly after Reading is Key on February 29th, we had our philanthropy event called Kappa Kookie Gathering, that the house chairman puts on to promote Reading is Fundamental. We host this event at the Red CrossKappa house and invite fraternities, sororities, money friends and family to come and support our cause. We ask each guest to bring one children’s book for admission and then they had been saving for are welcome to eat delicious baked goods and mingle. To end our spring semester, our philanthropy chairman planned an exercise bicycleawesome event called Kappa Kappa Gameday. For this event, we invited fraternities to come and collected clothingparticipate in a flag football tournament. A few members worked All of the proceeds, went to the Corinne McClane Scholarship. This scholarship was awarded to our president, Lexi Wilson. To start off the fall semester with a splash, on Red Cross clean-up crewsOctober 8th, we hosted another philanthropy event, Kappa Splash, that was definitely one for the books! Kappa Splash is a diving competition between fraternity men that were judged by their Biggest Splash, Best Belly Flop, and Most Creative Dive that had us all laughing. They had already been organizing blood drivesThis event we raised over 25,000 children books, triple the amount raised last year, so this that were donated to different schools around our community. Our last philanthropy event of the semester was promoted called Kappa Con Queso which is nacho average philanthropy. On November 16th, We were able to replenish blood supplies during the aftermath celebrate our 42nd year philanthropy event called Kappa Con Queso, around all of the earthquakepeople that we love. ==A New Millennium-- Highlights In the spring semester, we did not have recruitment because we already had enough women to fulfill house total. This gave us extra time to get prepared for recruitment in the fall. On August 19th through the 21st, our membership chairman, Deanna Saab hosted our retreat at the kappa house at UCLA. At our retreat, we got to spend lots of 2000-2010:==time bonding with our sisters, making memories that will last a life time and also prepared for fall recruitment. On September 9th, our chairman hosted our Blue on Blue Dinner, where the chapter got together and got to eat and prepare for recruitment that was soon to come. On September 10th through the 12th, fall recruitment was held and on September 13th we welcomed 35 women into our chapter. On November 12th, 32 women got to be initiated into our chapter.

Jill also was the inspiration for the "Just like Jill" campaign through the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Shortly after graduating, Jill passed away, but her legacy still lives on. The chapter continues to be involved in Bonnie J. Addario events, as well as "Jog for Jill." In fact, two ==Highlights of our Kappa sisters are members of the Jill's Legacy Board through the Bonnie J. Addario Foundation.2017==

==Highlights 2017 was an eventful year for Epsilon Xi and all the fun started with our Sapphire Ball on February 24th. On March 10th we held our annual philanthropy, Reading is Key, and made crafts and read to the kindergarteners and first graders at Sunny Brae Elementary School. On March 13th the first lavaliering ceremony of 2011-2012:== (scholarshipthe year was held for Meghan McCarty who’s boyfriend, group honors/awardsa member of ΣΧ, lavaliered her on their two year anniversary. On March 29th, six of our sisters, Emilie, Andie, special eventsHailey, philanthropy Katy, Farren, and Mara were inducted into Gamma Sigma Alpha which is a Greek Honor Society. Greek students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and service projectsabove in their upper division courses are invited to join. Along with this, etcour chapter was also awarded for being above the sorority average GPA. The very next day we held KKGLEE which is a talent show and the proceeds went to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation. The Pulmonary Hypertension Association was chosen as one of the foundations because it was a cause close to one of our sister’s hearts. Alyssa Hoekstra’s mom was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and our chapter knew that this was one way we could help and support our sister.):

Our chapter won multiple awards at Pi Province On April 6th we held another annual fundraiser called Kappa Kookie Gathering and the theme for this past yearwas “Finding Kappa”, the entrance fee was one children's book and endless desserts were provided to our guests. We raised over 2On April 8th,000 dollars for our national philanthropy Reading is Fundamental we won 1st place in ZBT's Powderpuff Philanthropy and continued to work with Emerson Elementary school kids were awarded a huge football trophy now proudly on their reading skills once a weekdisplay in the Kappa House. A lot of our members also participated Favorite Faculty was held on April 11th in other philanthropy events throughout the greek system including DG's basketball tournament, Pi Phi's arrowbands competition, Northridge Center and we had the best attendance in years! Another win for Epsilon Xi was made on April 15th at Sigma Chi's Derby DaysChi’s dodgeball philanthropy. On April 19th we won SigEp’s philanthropy, Queen of Hearts. Some highlights On May 5th Melissa Acuna was lavaliered by her boyfriend at the AEPi formal in San Diego and our second lavaliering ceremony of the year included Jog was held. And even another dodgeball win for Jill, Monmouth, Kappa Karoake, and initiation of 40 new membersus at ZBT’s philanthropy on May 11th. On May 27th Anela Kremecki was named Sigma Chi sweetheart.

This past school year Our preparation for fall recruitment started with our chapter heavily focused yearly retreat held at the UCLA Kappa House and we were there chanting and clapping from Aug 18th to the 20th. On September 8th, Blue on academics Blue Dinner was held to get everyone pumped for the upcoming fall recruitment and the delicious tacos were a fan-favorite. California State University Northridge held their formal fall recruitment for panhellenic sororities from September 9th through September 11th and Epsilon Xi extended bids to 41 members. The best day of the year in doing so we raised my opinion, Bid Day appropriately themed Kappa-ly Ever After, was September 12th and our overall GPA from new members were graciously welcomed home with a 3shaved ice truck and tons and tons of glitter! Continuous open bidding was conducted at the kappa house and 5 more bids were extended, helping our chapter grow.32 Leadership Academy was September 14th through the 17th and Cathleen Flores was selected and flown out to Ohio to attend. She had a great time and had this to say about her experience, “I met a 3bunch of other kappas from all around the U.39S. We acconplished this , even Canada, and we all got the opportunity to experience and learn about leadership by requiring doing various activities in the woods, conversations in our small groups, and just reflecting on ourselves and realizing we’re all leaders and all members to log the skills I learned there I now use in 3 study hours per weekmy daily life”.

In 2011 UC Berkeley students participated in the "Occupy Cal" movement in order to protest the privatization ==Highlights of UC Berkeley. Even though this was supposed to be a peaceful protest, several students were arrested upon failing to comply with the university's policy on "no emcampment." There were several rallies and walkouts that occurred in response to this throughout the fall semester of 2011.2018==

==Highlights 2018 has proven to be a memorable year for Epsilon Xi chapter of 2013== Kappa Kappa Gamma. Our Spring recipient of the Linda Morrison Awardyear started off with a lavaliering ceremony for Nicolina Redmond and her little Hillary Winston, who both got engaged over Winter Break! The next week we had another lavaliering ceremony for Lesley Reyes, Morgan Fabian recently passed on who was lavaliered by her boyfriend in December at the honor to the new Fall recipient of the Linda Morrison Award, Madeline StorchSigma Phi Epsilon Formal in San Diego. We also had gave proceeds to Route 91 Strong, a very successful year with foundation that is dear to our event Kappa Karaoke where we raised $5sister,000 for Reading is Fundamental. With regards to our PanHellenic InvolvementAmanda Bell, Kappa was involved in a House Decorating Competition for “Big Game Week” and placedafter her experience at the Las Vegas shooting. Our reward was to have our letters projected onto the Campanile for a whole night! The Pi Deuteron Chapter We also participated in Pi Provence this past year. Multiple members of the chapter spent the day learning about other Kappa chapters multiple fraternity philanthropies including Zeta Beta Tau’s powderpuff and recognizing outstanding awards for these chaptersSigma Phi Epsilon’s Sigep Salute. The Pi Chapter was also recognized Our sisters Gioia D’Andrea, Nashra De Leon, Rebecca Grinberg, Sara Johnston, Kayla Kirkpatrick, Jennifer Putterflam, Kaeli Shaw, and received Hillary Winston were inducted into the AB Award at ProvenceGreek honor society Gamma Sigma Alpha. Lastly our chapter has been focusing on our scholarship and academic success. Most noticeably we have Study Tables every Wednesday night in the Chapter Room in order to provide a safeIn addition, Kayla Kirkpatrick, quiet environment conducive to studying. In Spring 2013Kaeli Shaw, the Pi Deuteron Chapter maintained a 3.40 G.P.A compared to the PHC average of 3.37 and the All Greek Average Hillary Winston were also inducted into Order of 3.27Omega.

The most recent change April was a busy month, starting off with inviting our favorite faculty and staff to an event celebrating their influence on our sisters. Our Sapphire Ball took place on campus is April 6th, where we Oh Patted our seniors goodbye. We had another sisterhood event in which we all went bowling together. On April 16th, we held our Candyland themed Kappa Kookie Gathering philanthropy event at the “Breathe” InitiativeKappa house. The entrance fee was one children's book or toy, and guests were provided with unlimited desserts and a fun time. The campus has officially become tobacco free environmentitems collected were donated to My Stuff Bags Foundation. Construction Our sporty sisters won first in CSUN’s intramural volleyball championships. Also in the month of April, we decorated our house with new outdoor furniture- blue of course. And on Lower Sproul has been occurring for the past 30th, we held an exchange with Phi Mu, our sister sorority of the semester. Even more of our sisters- Balpreet Gill and Karen Ramos- were inducted into Gamma Sigma Alpha. Along with Morgan Anderson and Ally Medina, who were inducted into Order of Omega. On the 17th, we initiated our pledge class, officially welcoming them into our chapter and finally having the pleasure of calling them our sisters. On Monday, November 26th, we received another visit from a Leadership Consultant, who stayed with us throughout the week and gave us constructive advice for our Leadership Training Day. She even got to take part in our exchange with Sigma Phi Epsilon. We all dressed up in ugly holiday sweaters and spent the night decorating ornaments and gingerbread houses. Our last meeting of the semester took place on the third of December, in which we installed our new officers and prepared for winter break with our families. Overall, this year has been one for the BOOKS (Get it? We raise books!). 2018 has brought Epsilon Xi endless friendships, an abundance of opportunities, and everlasting memories.

Our campus is currently undergoing renovations on Lower Sproul Plaza, With the central part of our university. Our new bookstore and student centers are expected year coming to be completed in Fall 2015. We hold It all started with our meetings in our chapter owned house near first meeting on January 27th when everyone returned to California State University, Northridge for the UC Berkeley campus. The house that our chapter owns today provides room and board for approximately 69 members each Spring semester. Our chapter remained connected and supportive as we learned more from the University. With us eventually finding out that the remainder of the semester would be held in a virtual capacity. Throughout this month, our President - Ella Rhodes, remained transparent and helpful as the Chapter Council came together to re-work the rest of the year’s scheduling. We commenced with our first virtual meeting on March 23rd.

The year 2015 has been an exciting addition to the Pi Deuteron We began our Senior Recognitions within our virtual chapter. From the events we participated meetings in to the new members we receivedApril, with our Public Relations Chairwoman - Rachel Chang, highlighting each senior on our chapter continues to flourishsocial media page. This past year we have been working on five goals as a chapter council. Our first focus was to make standards more welcoming and have more of a positive presenceMay concluded our Spring semester. To do this, we made the standards room a more welcoming environment, we had standards do a programming to go over procedure, Epsilon Xi spent summer relaxing and they worked to be more transparent throughout the semester. The next obstacle we wanted to tackle was the lack of emphasis on ritual in the house. We had monthly ritual reviews, started meetings quarantining with an inspirational quote or a piece of Kappa history, and held special ritual reviews for the newest initiated pledge class. Our third goal was to make pre-recruitment work week more effective and enjoyable. We decided to hold two pre-recruitment meetings during the Spring to learn the recruitment songs, we created MVPs of the day and gave out prizes to those who were positive and working hard during work week and we decided not to move on to another song or dance until we knew the one we were previously working on. Next, we wanted to work on getting the house more involved on campus. We started spotlighting a member of the house each week for their accomplishments and involvement, we listed the philanthropies other houses were hosting a month in advance and created a list of what different clubs girls in the house are involved in. Finally, we decided we wanted to work as a chapter council to lead by example and be effective and efficient. To do this, we worked on communicating everything we were working on during Chapter Council meetings, we encouraged the house to be more involved roommates and worked hard to help one another whenever we couldfamily members.

We held avirtual de-pinning ceremony followed by a combination ceremony of WR and RR. Our meetings,sisterhood events, Sapphire Ball, Chapter Council meetings, philanthropy, and more were all held overzoom. Throughout the summer, we prepared forour first semester in-person since March of 2020.For the fall semester, or donated hours we offered a monthly virtual option where sisters were able to submit a form ifthey would like toattend virtually for the month. Those attending in-person had to follow CSUN’sCOVID-19 guidelines and wear a mask while inside a building, complete health screenings prior toevents, maintain social distancing, etc. Despite transitioning from online to being back in your community?-person, wedid have to host a fully virtual recruitment. Hosting a virtual recruitment lowered the number ofwomen who signed up, thus leading to a smaller pledge class than expected.

Why did your chapter choose this organization(s) The Kappas joined back up for retreat in August to support?get recruitment ready. From the 14th to the 16th, everyone met on Zoom for our annual retreat. At retreat, we practiced songs, went over recruitment procedures, and really got to know our sisters in our spare time. We were ready for the new school year! On August 31st, we were excited to host our first Chapter meeting of the school year!

September 11th was our spirited Blue on Blue dinner where members met up on Zoom and were dressed head to toe in BLUE! This was ‘recruitment eve’ where we celebrated all of our events. Kappa Karaoke is an event dedicated to raising money hard work preparing for this causerecruitment and had a night of fun before the busy weekend began, and it is our largest philanthropy VPS - Lex Daffern, made the event even more special by including different activities, such as jeopardy, for us to bond over. Saturday September 12th marked the first day of the yearrecruitment. The wide scope of the philanthropy allows us We were thrilled to run book drives, donate our timemeet so many women, and fundraisewere especially exhilarated for Bid Day, all for a concise cause. Furthermorewhich was themed “Kappa Disco”! Each member was decorated in their best disco outfits! During the event, we enjoy having were thrilled to have a hands-on support approach to improve childhood literacy by traveling to Zoom background contest, participate in a local elementary school jeopardy game, and move into breakout rooms to read personally introduce ourselves to children every weekthe new members. Kappa Kappa Gamma celebrated its 150th year, and Epsilon Xi celebrated by attending a virtual ceremony, where we were able to take a moment to appreciate all that is Kappa. On the 24th, the active members surprised their littles with big and little reveal disguised as a sisterhood event on Zoom. We were dedicated to making sure the new members got the best out of 2020:==their new member experience, and were delighted to see that they were extremely happy with it! On October 30th, we were excited to release our virtual ‘Presents’ informational event to each parent of our wonderful new members.
