==Highlights of 2020==

This past year a lot in our chapter has changed due to COVID-19. Thankfully, we still got through a successful initiation for PC’20 before SMU shut down. This semester, we were unable to hold any Kappa in-person events. This includes date dashes, the Sapphire Ball, and different philanthropic events. However, that did not stop us. This year marked the 150th year of Kappa Kappa Gamma. We decided to donate over 150 books, and give out blue hand sanitizer. We also held a virtual meals on wheels event last semester. This semester we held a virtual workout class with Lync. All the proceeds went towards the Bridge Breast Network. We also held a scholarships. This includes the Dallas Alumnae Association Gamma Phi Chapter Scholarship, the Wendy Weber Scholarship and the Nancy Moses Scholarship. Junior, Hailey Haase received the Wendy Weber Scholarship and seniors, Candice Cramer and Isabelle Wyant received the Nancy Moses Scholarship. Since members could not be together in the house, the standards chairman organized different sisterhood events like going to a drive-thru movie theater in Dallas!

Our chapter supports Akola Jewelry during philanthropy day. We have worked with this organization for years. It is a business run by women to empower other women. It helps the lives of those less fortunate and we are very lucky to work with a company started by an SMU Kappa alum.

Marshall:

This year with half virtual and half in person semesters was definitely interesting. Initiation was the first main thing that I as Marshall organized. We held inspiration week leading up to initiation that were all in person. These activities included a movie night with the entire 2021 pledge class, a cute picnic during the day, and other activities like that in order to unite the entire pledge class and have more sisterhood events. Then, after all the white roses and pins were ordered for initiation, the chapter president and I made arrangements for holding a virtual initiation via zoom with all members. Although it may have felt odd, virtual initiation went really smoothly and all new members were initiated on March 6, 2021! A initiation brunch was organized at Park House with the help of the kappa moms club. After initiation, my duties were mainly just to help with the rest of chapter members and especially chapter president. Later on this semester, formal chapter meetings were held in person and I had many preparations for that which included teaching the entire chapter the formal chapter songs and procedure since it had been a while since we did it. Lastly, I held song practice once a week starting halfway into the semester to teach the chapter the kappa songs needed for rush. I will finish off my position during rush week in January and am looking forward to the new PC and new marshal!
