One of our members in the 2014 pledge class, Virginia Stewart wears her grandmother, Patricia Crane Mason's badge. She pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma at LSU on March 3rd, 1956. Her badge is stunning, adorned with sapphires and pearls. On the back, her name is engraved along with the Delta Iota Greek symbols and 3-3-56. Her three older sisters, Elaine, Sarah, and Maggie Stewart all wore the pin before her. In 1957, her grandmother wore her pin when she was elected and installed as the chapter president as a mere sophomore. Virginia feels so lucky to not only share the Kappa experience and badge with her grandmother, but they also share the honor of being apart of the Delta Iota Chapter Council.
==Highlights of 2016==
The Delta Iota Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma at LSU has participated in many campus wide and Greek events. Some of these events include Sigma CaNU, Sigma Phi Epsilon Schoolyard Scrample, Pi Kappa Alpha's Capture the Flag, LSU Greekwide Songfest, and Stepshow. Delta Iota also supported the philanthropies of other chapters on campus including Tri Delta's Delta Desserts to benefit St. Jude's Children Hospital and Theta Xi's blood drive. We also hosted our own blood drive with Sigma Nu.
We have competed in many athletic events, such as intramural kickball and soccer, where we won first place for soccer! Besides all of our campus involvements, the Delta Iota chapter has continued it's tradition of emphasizing the importance of philanthropy. This November, Kappa hosted a Parent's Cocktail Silent Auction and the 26th Annual Kappa Klassic Golf Tournament, raising money for The Rose McGill Foundation and The St. Jude's Dream Day Foundation. We anticipate that these events raised over $50,000.
Members of Delta Iota get to see the result of our hard work by attending Dream Day's Fishin' Galore every Spring, where patients spend a fun-filled, carnival themed day with their families in Clinton, LA. Delta Iota hosted our Sixth Annual Kappa Krawfish Panhellenic event, where we raised $15,000 for our National Philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental, and $3,000 for Rose McGill Aid in loving memory of our sister, Megan Rogers. Our Spring Reading is Key Event was held at Wildwood Elementary School, and all 550 students at the school got to go home with a book! Our Fall Reading is Key Event was held especially for victims of the Great Flood of 2016 at Claiborne Elementary School, which merged with Howell Park Elementary School, due to flooding at Howell Park.
With the generous support from Kappa chapters across the county, this Reading is Key Event was our largest ever! We donated over 1,000 books to the school. With 328 members, Delta Iota has been growing and excelling at LSU. Our members are required to be involved in other organizations and participate in volunteer work. Some members volunteer at hospitals and animal shelters, while others are involved in the Tiger Athletic Foundation. Delta Iota has participated in Greek Week at LSU, which is a week dedicated to Habitat for Humanity. All the sororities and fraternities come together to raise money and build two houses for the less fortunate in Baton Rouge.
This year, our officers went to Atlanta for Convention, where we were honored to receive awards for Risk Management and the Kappa Foundation. We also received honorable mention for Standards, Gracious Living, and Philanthropy. From LSU, we also won the Outstanding Chapter for Order of Omega award. This past year has been an exciting year for the Delta Iota chapter and we look forward to another fantastic year.
Louisiana State University has become a nationally recognized college, ranked as a top tier university on the national rank. The university has made long term investments in enhancements including expansions to the Business Education Complex, a completely renovated Student Recreation Center, and the betterment of new and existing dorms. In August 2016, a historic flood hit Baton Rouge, LA, postponing LSU’s recruitment. As a result, recruitment occurred during the first week of school.
This fall, LSU welcomed a new sorority on campus, Alpha Delta Pi. We were so excited to have a new addition to sorority row! Overall, the Delta Iota Chapter has developed into a more responsible and involved chapter. Our members took part in many Panhellenic events and represented Kappa to the best of their ability. As a chapter, we are looking forward to the future, learning from our past, and making the Delta Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma a highly respected and responsible chapter, both nationally and locally.

The founder of the Dream Day Foundation, Marty Engquist, is a Delta Iota alum. Every year, for Reading is Key, we select a local, underprivileged elementary school to donate books and host our Reading is Key Event.
