The Snowden-Gray House and Heritage Museum of Kappa Kappa Gamma in Columbus, Ohio, is dedicated to educating members and the public about the changing societal role of women in higher education, perpetuating the heritage of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, and preserving the architectural integrity of the 1852 Italianate home.

==History==
The home was built in 1852–1854 by Philip T. Snowden and his wife Abigail. He, a successful dry goods merchant and she, a successful milliner (hat-maker). From 1862–1864 it was the home of Civil War Governor David Tod. From the end of the Civil War until 1922, the family of Columbus philanthropist David S. Gray occupied the residence. Since 1922 it has served a variety of uses, including the headquarters of the Columbus Women’s Club. In 1951 Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity acquired the house as its national headquarters. In 1981 the original downstairs rooms were restored to their 19th century style. Period furnishings and artifacts depict daily life and culture in the Victorian era with an emphasis on the lives and roles of women.

What’s history to you? Is it the recent four years of high school? Maybe it’s the decade you spent working for a local accounting firm or the years spent raising a family. Each of those is an important season and no doubt influences the way you think about the future. But what about history with a capital “H”?

The early days of Kappa Kappa Gamma coincide with the history of women during the Victorian Period. Our founding was a bold move by women who at the time didn’t have the right to vote. Our tradition of preparing women for leadership opportunities comes right from the pages of history as women campaigned for that right and the right to hold public office.

Knowing where we come from can help to put our current history into context. It can affirm for us that the struggles we encounter on the way to our goals are worth the effort—no matter how long it might take to achieve them. That is why we maintain not one, but two, Kappa museums—The Stewart House in Monmouth, Illinois and The Heritage Museum in Columbus, Ohio.

You can see why we think that the days of our founding — yes, and even the birth of the modern woman — are worth remembering. Worth it for what we might learn from others and for what it might tell us about the future.

'''
''We’re committed to preserving that history. Not for the sake of showcasing some old jewelry or presenting pages from a yellowed diary but to teach from it.'''''

''Historically Speaking'' is a newsletter that is written by the Fraternity History Chairman. In days gone by, it was printed in ''The Key'' as a column with historical tidbits. It later incorporated questions that were frequently sent to the Fraternity Archivist and the Fraternity History Chairman. For a time the newsletter was mailed to all Chapter Education Chairmen and eventually was made available online. Check back frequently as we upload more back-issues of this interesting publication. Please note that the newsletters reflect the brands and styles of the time in which they were published.
